This building stood in Russell Street near the western corner of Bentinck. It was built for John Hughes in the early 1830s and was apparently the first two story house in Bathurst. Years later the ground floor was converted into a shop and a balcony was added to the front. The second photo shows the house from the rear in 1873. """
